Practice Profiles

APHO general practice profiles

GP practice profiles have been available in some regions for a couple of years, including London. The Public Health Observatories in England have developed a refreshed set of general practice profiles for the whole of England. These profiles are designed to assist GPs, consortia and PCTs, to ensure that they are providing and commissioning effective and appropriate healthcare services for their local populations.

The profiles include 158 practice-level indicators, and pull together information on demography, deprivation, patient satisfaction, the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and selected hospital activity indicators. At-a-glance summaries allow you to compare your practice easily with both PCT and England averages. A key feature of the tool is the ability to select a cluster of practices of your choice and display a profile for a range of indicators for that cluster.

London’s practice profiles

The London Practice Profiles were developed by the London Health Observatory to assist GPs and primary care commissioners in ensuring they are providing and commissioning adequate levels of effective and appropriate healthcare services for their local population. The tool provides a consistent approach to the benchmarking of primary care services within the capital. It focuses on 89 indicators of primary and secondary care, providing measures of practice quality alongside demographic and estimated ethnic population data.

Although no longer maintained separately, the London Practice Profiles are the best source for providing a picture of ethnic breakdown of practice populations.
