HES Analyses
HES analyses
The LHO undertakes a large set of analyses of inpatient activity from its Hospital episode statistics (HES)
data. Routine analyses are presented on this page, organised under the headings below. If you are not able to find the analysis you are looking you can request further analysis using the
request form. A list of recent ad-hoc requests can be found at the bottom of this page in the table, HES analyses - other - datasets.
Admissions by type of admission
- rates of admissions for all admissions, elective admissions (planned admissions) and emergency admissions by PCT and ward
- emergency bed days by PCT
- paediatric admission rates (admissions in those aged 19 years and under).
Admission by selected primary diagnoses and causes
- rates for all admissions for selected primary diagnoses and causes by PCT and ward
- rates for all admissions for selected primary diagnoses and causes by ethnicity and SHA
- rates and ratios for serious accidental injuries by PCT and ward
- emergency admission rates for selected primary diagnoses and causes by PCT and ward
- average length of stay for all admissions for selected primary diagnoses and causes by PCT and ward.
Hospital episode rates for selected procedures
A hospital episode (or Finished Consultant Episode) is defined as a period of admitted patient care under one consultant within one healthcare provider.
