Heartsavers: cost savings from a reduction of emergency admissions for myocardial infarction following smoke-free legislation in EnglandThis report looks at the short term impact of smoke-free legislation in England to estimate the reduction in bed days and costs to the NHS of emergency admissions for myocardial infarction (MI). Analysis suggests that the introduction of smoke-free legislation in England has resulted in approximately 9,600 fewer bed days for MI admissions, and an estimated cost saving to acute hospital care of £8.4 million.
